Editorial

Dear colleagues,

In this edition of "Computer Graphics & Geometry" Journal, you find the first special issue of papers (prepared specially for CG&G) from the Education and Research in Computer Aided Architectural Design in Europe conference (short: eCAADe). The eCAADe is a non-profit making association of institutions and individuals with a common interest in promoting good practice and sharing information in relation to the use of computer graphics and geometry in research and education in architecture and related profession. One of the important aspects of this problem is namely computer geometry and graphics as a basis of  architectural design, which are very close to the area of interest of CG&G Journal readers.

Within the general aims of the promotion of exchange and collaboration, eCAADe sets out to:
• create an international information network about CAAD activities;
• promote the exchange of staff and students between schools that undertake research and teaching in CAAD;
• foster the creation of closer relations between education, research and practice;
• establish contact with governmental, international and professional organisations and agencies.

The eCAADe Association is active since 1983, most notably through the annual conference. It provides an international platform for researchers and educators in CAAD to present their work and exchange their experiences. The scope of the conference therefore, is very wide. The detailed information about eCAADe activities you can find at our web site – www.ecaade.org.

 The following papers are the first contribution of eCAADe to the CG&G Journal. The initial papers are submitted to the 24th eCAADe conference which took place in Volos, Greece 6-9 September 2006. They show the problems, which are corresponding to the main area of interest of eCAADe. From papers strictly connected with problems of computer graphics and geometry (R.J. Krawczyk) to very general but important consideration of the designing that is crucial for computer graphic representation (papers by K. Terzidis and T. Tidafi and I. Iordanova). The problem of computer graphic representation is considered by I. Iordanova, L. Heaton and M. Guite in the paper about communication during design process and by N.E. Veirum, M.F. Christiansen, M. Mayerhofer in consideration about computer graphic representation of cultural heritage in digital space. H. Achten considers the use of multi-agent systems for sketch computer drawing recognition.
We are pleased that Computer Graphics & Geometry Journal offers this opportunity to host articles by participants of  the eCAADe conference. The papers in this CG&G issue concern the problems presented by authors at the last eCAADe Conference. We hope that you find the contributions interesting.

Editors of the issue:

Prof. Michael Matalasov (Deputy Editor-in-Chief (IT in architecture)), Russia,
